The owner of a minor league football team that offered Michael Vick a contract told a newspaper he didn’t know about the publicity stunt and would not have approved it.

“I’m a dog lover and I don’t want anything to do with (Vick),” Albany Firebirds owner Walter Robb told the (Albany) Times Union for a story posted on its website Tuesday night.

Earlier in the day, the team an arenafootball2 franchise, announced it had offered the 28-year-old quarterback a one-year contract at the league standard: $200 a week plus a $50 bonus for a win.

“That’s a joke,” Robb said. “Can you imagine him playing for $200 a week? I think (the offer) was a big mistake.”

The announcement was later pulled from the team’s website.

Firebirds general manager Garen Szablewski told The Times Union the team’s marketing department came up with the idea to make an offer to Vick.

“The process wasn’t thought through properly,” Szablewski said. “The right hand didn’t know what the left hand was doing.”

Vick played for the Atlanta Falcons for six seasons before being convicted of bankrolling an interstate dog fighting business.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has not said if he will lift Vick’s suspension after he completes a 23-month prison sentence. Vick goes from federal prison to home confinement next month.

The Firebirds’ contract offer also required Vick donate $100,000 to a local humane society.

Arlen Specter, is switching sides, from Republican to Democrat:

Pennsylvania Republican Senator Arlen Spector announced today that he will be leaving the GOP in favor of the Democratic party. The switch is big news for the President’s party, as it means that Democrats will likely have a filibuster-proof majority of 60 votes in the U.S. Senate. The 60-vote mark is contingent on Al Franken holding onto his long-contested win in Minnesota. Spector was one of only three GOP senators to vote for President Obama’s $787 billion stimulus plan - a move that angered many of the senator’s Republican peers. The 5-term veteran was expected to face a very tough primary challenge in 2010 from former Rep. Pat Toomey, reports CNN. Toomey nearly bested Specter in 2004.

“I have decided to run for re-election in 2010 in the Democratic primary,” said Specter in a statement. “I am ready, willing and anxious to take on all comers and have my candidacy for re-election determined in a general election.”

When asked about the switch, Specter said he is leaving the Republican Party because it “has moved far to the right” and away from being a “big tent,” reports USA Today. He continued, saying that he feels that his “political philosophy more in line with Democrats than Republicans.”

Yahoo! Music News reports, the singer plans to launch a solo career and will officially leave when the girl band complete the promotion of new album “Doll Domination”.

There has been no official comment on the news although celebrity blogger Perez Hilton recently drew attention to latest single “Jai Ho”, which was credited to ‘Pussycat Dolls featuring Nicole Scherzinger’.

“The big reason most people believe is that Nicole has actually now LEFT the Pussycat Dolls but is still remaining with them until the ‘Doll Domination’ era is over”, he wrote.

Scherzinger is rumoured to be considering making a record with her boyfriend, Formula One ace Lewis Hamilton.

Former Clipse manager and nightclub owner Anthony “Geezy” Gonzalez has been charged in U.S. District Court with running a $10 million a year drug ring.

According to federal documents, Gonzalez’s 6 year drug empire has allegedly moved 100 pounds of cocaine and over a ton of marijuana through Hampton Roads, Virginia since 2003.

Authorities suspect Gonzalez imported the drugs from Panama Florida, California, and Arizona.

The 82-count indictment states that Gonzalez laundered drug money through several front businesses, including the Clipse’s booking agency Soul Providers Management.

The federal document elaborates that the defendants painted “themselves out as music producers, rappers, entrepreneurs, club owners, clothing designers and other legitimate occupations in order to conceal the true source of their income.”

In addition, Gonzalez is accused of making several kingpin transactions, such as purchasing 10 kilos cocaine for $200,000, and 625 pounds of marijuana for $540,000 in 2007.

Gonzalez’s Encore Lounge nightclub was allegedly purchased in 2007 for $80,000 and 40 pounds of marijuana.

Earlier this year, the Virginia Beach nightclub closed down after a reputed 100-plus incidents of violence and drug transactions in 2008.

Six other co-conspirators were named in the 60-page document, including a police officer who allegedly tipped Gonzalez off about the coming indictment.

To date, Anthony “Geezy” Gonzalez remains at large. At press time, the Clipse could not be reached for comment.
