Gilbert Arenas Suspended Indefinitely From the NBA…

Friday, January 8th, 2010

Wizards Suns Basketball
The NBA has suspended Washington Wizards star Gilbert Arenas indefinitely.

In a statement, NBA commissioner David Stern said:

“Although it is clear that the actions of Mr. Arenas will ultimately result in a substantial suspension, and perhaps worse, his ongoing conduct has led me to conclude that he is not currently fit to take the court in an NBA game … Accordingly, I am suspending Mr. Arenas indefinitely, without pay, effective immediately pending the completion of the investigation by the NBA.”

Arenas is under investigation for bringing guns to the Verizon Center, where the Wizards play, and allegedly getting into a standoff with teammate Javaris Crittenton.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police say Cincinnati Bengals receiver Chris Henry has died, one day after suffering serious injuries upon falling out of the back of a pickup truck in what authorities describe as a domestic dispute with his fiancee.

Police say Henry died at 6:36 a.m. Thursday. Henry was 26.

Away from the team because of a broken forearm, Henry was rushed to the hospital Wednesday after being found on a residential road. Police say a dispute began at a home about a half-mile away, and Henry jumped into the bed of the truck as his fiancee was driving away from the residence.

Police said at some point when she was driving, Henry “came out of the back of the vehicle.

Henry is engaged to Loleini Tonga, and the couple has been raising three children. Tonga’s MySpace page identifies herself as “Mrs. C. Henry” and has a picture of her next to a person who appears to be Henry. She also has a post from Tuesday talking about buying wedding rings.

Neighbor Karen Clanton said the Tonga family lives in the house where the police say the incident began, adding that she didn’t witness it and that “they’re nice folks.

There were tire tracks on the front lawn Wednesday.

Henry broke his left forearm Nov. 8 during a win over Baltimore. He had surgery and was placed on season-ending injured reserve following the game. Charlotte is home to Tonga’s parents.

The Bengals (9-4) lead the AFC North and play host to the San Diego Chargers on Sunday.

NBA Wives New Reality Show “Basketball Wives”…

Tuesday, December 8th, 2009

nbawives

Why would anyone care about she the life of an NBA wife, who knows but it’s about to happen. Shaunie O’Neal, Shaq’s wife, pitched a show to VH1 and know they have picked it up and are about to start production. A total of 6 women (wives, finances and baby mamas) will be appearing on the show including Dwight Howard’s baby mama, Royce Reed, who was just recently told by a judge that she can’t even mention Dwight’s name… DAMN!!!

VH1 has teamed up with the wives and girlfriends of some of the NBA’s most elite players to give the viewers a behind-the-scenes look at the glamorous life of a professional basketball player’s wife in VH1’s original series, “Basketball Wives.” Production is set to begin on the series in December 2009. The eight-episode 30-minute series is set to premiere on March 15, 2010.

This series is about the insider life of the wives, girlfriends and a few ex-wives of some of the biggest ballers in the game. These ladies live the life. But living the high life is not all glamour. In order to protect it, they have to deal with the jealousies and dramas of living in — and staying in — the inner circle. They must also keep the groupies at bay while their husbands and boyfriends are traveling… wondering if their spouses are being faithful to them.

The cast is filled with the wives and ex-wives of superstars including Jennifer Williams (wife of Eric Williams), Evelyn Lozada (ex-fiancé of Antoine Walker), Mesha O’Neal (wife of Jermaine O’Neal), Royce Reed, Faith Rain (Udonis Haslem’s girlfriend) and Shaunie O’Neal (wife of Shaquille O’Neal) who will also serve as Executive Producer on the series.

Shaunie O’Neal: “Having been around these remarkable women for several years, I have always recognized that behind every NBA star is a strong, exceptional woman, one who must deal with the unique challenges of being married to the game as well as the player.”

The funny thing about this whole situation is… Royce Reed, Dwight Howard’s baby mama, is not allowed to mention her baby daddy’s name or she will have to pay a price. Dwight just recently filed for an injunction against Royce because she has been ranting and raving about him being a deadbeat dad on the internet and in an ESPN interview. The judge granted Dwight the injunction and now Royce can’t mention his name nor nicknames at all, in any way form or fashion.

Royce is banned from “using or publishing (orally, in writing, or otherwise), directly, indirectly or by innuendo, [Dwight's] name, nicknames, image, brand photographs, and/or likeness.”

Pacquiao Vs Mayweather Set For March 13…

pacquiao-vs-mayweather

Manny Pacquiao looks set to fight Floyd Mayweather Jr on March 13 after agreeing to a proposal from Bob Arum.

Pacquiao’s adviser Michael Koncz said Arum presented the fighter with the proposal at a two-hour breakfast in Manila on Friday.

“The requests of Manny were so realistic that Arum doesn’t feel it’s a problem and it’s pretty much a done deal,” Koncz said.

The Filipino legend, who is running for president in his home nation, has some requests of his own that require some ironing out, although trainer Freddie Roach believes they will be no obstacle to the fight the world wants to see.

“We talked to Arum and he had the March date and May 1 available and Manny chose the earlier date because of the elections in the Phillipines, and I can’t wait to get started,”
Roach told Sky Sports News.

“It’ll be the biggest fight of all time, the biggest pay-per-view event of all time and my main sparring partner will be Amir Khan.

“There’s always negotiations, like he (Mayweather) wants 10oz gloves we want 8oz gloves, stuff like that, the weight he wants is 154lb, we want 147, so there’s some issues but I think it can be solved.

“It’s a tough fight because his style does give us difficulties, and we need to draft a plan for a new strategy. Yes, it’s a tough fight but it’s a fight Manny wants.”

Both fighters have claims to the right to be called the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world, and it appears matters will be settled sooner, rather than later.

NBA Bad Boy Ron Artest Says He Use To Drink Hennessy At Halftime Of Games…

Ron Artest, the often-controversial Los Angeles Lakers forward, told a magazine interviewer he used to drink alcohol at halftime of NBA games.

– Ron Artest to The Sporting News

“I used to drink Hennessy … at halftime,” Artest said in an interview with the Sporting News, which is publishing the story in its Dec. 7 issue. “I [kept it] in my locker. I’d just walk to the liquor store and get it.”

Hennessy is a French cognac.

Artest said he drank when he played for the Chicago Bulls, where he played for his first three seasons (1999-2002). He has since played for Indiana, Sacramento, Houston and the Lakers.

He was a member of the Pacers when he was involved in a fight in Detroit that spilled over into the stands. He was suspended for the rest of the 2004-05 season, which turned out to be 73 games. Artest told the Sporting News that the brawl “wasn’t my fault. … I don’t see anything I could have done different.”

Artest told the Sporting News that he has tamed his admittedly wild lifestyle, but still likes to “party and I have fun.”

“When I was a 19-year-old father, whew. I was a single pimp! I was wild,” he told the magazine. “A lot of marijuana and alcohol — even before [that age]. … I [still] party and I have fun, but not like I used to. I used to drink every night and party every night.”

He also criticized NBA referee Joey Crawford, who was on the floor for two games of the 2009 NBA Western Conference semifinals. In Game 2, Artest was ejected after an altercation with Kobe Bryant. In Game 7, Crawford also officiated, and the Lakers won 89-70 to close out the series.

“Joey Crawford basically said, ‘Who cares about the Houston Rockets? Kobe Bryant is on the floor,’ ” Artest said, according to the Sporting News.

Shaquille O’Neal Pays Funeral Expenses Of Slain 5 Year Old Girl…

Professional basketball star Shaquille O’Neal paid for the funeral of a 5-year-old North Carolina girl whose body was found last week, O’Neal’s team confirmed Thursday.

Authorities believe the child, Shaniya Davis, was kidnapped, raped and murdered after being reported missing November 10. Her body was found six days later on a roadside about 30 miles from her hometown of Fayetteville, North Carolina. Her funeral was Sunday.

O’Neal said in a statement released by his team, the Cleveland Cavaliers, that he was touched after seeing Davis’ story on CNN sister network HLN’s “Nancy Grace” show.

“What happened to her was tragic. I wanted her to have a funeral that would be as beautiful as she was,” O’Neal said in the statement.

Corey Breece, of Rogers and Breece Funeral Home, told the Fayetteville Observer he wouldn’t discuss the cost of the child’s service, but he noted a child’s funeral “averages around $4,500.”

The girl’s father, Bradley Lockhart, and his family had set up a trust fund to help raise money to pay for the service, according to the Fayetteville Observer.

Family friend Vaughn Eason told the paper any remaining money would be used for groups and charities working to assist abused and neglected children.

Police have charged Mario Andrette McNeill with kidnapping and said he also will face murder and child rape charges.

Preliminary autopsy results indicated the child was asphyxiated, Fayetteville Police Chief Tom Bergamine told reporters last week, as authorities awaited final autopsy reports.

Davis’ mother, Antionette Nicole Davis, has been charged with human trafficking and other offenses. Police have said they believe she was prostituting the girl.

O’Neal, as a volunteer for law enforcement agencies in recent years, has been active in causes that deal with domestic violence issues, mainly child-abuse cases.
